Mr. Schechter is a member of the Employee Benefits-Taxation Section of the State Bar of California and the Taxation Section of the San Diego County Bar Association. He has also served on the Legislative and Regulatory Advisory Committee of the ESOP Association of America.
Corey F. Schechter focuses his practice on employee benefits law (ERISA) and executive compensation matters, benefit plan compliance and IRS/DOL audits, ERISA fiduciary counseling, ERISA litigation, qualified domestic relations orders (QDROs), and business and employment law. He is admitted to practice before the courts of California; the United States District Courts for the Southern, Central, and Northern Districts of California; the United States Tax Court; and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Mr. Schechter is a member of the San Diego County Bar Association, the Western Pension and Benefits Council—San Diego Chapter, and the Business Law and Tax Law sections of the State Bar of California.
Paul D. Woodard concentrates his practice on employee benefits law, employee stock ownership plans, pension, profit sharing and 401(k) plans, ERISA litigation, business law and litigation, qualified domestic relations orders (QDROs), estate planning, and trust litigation. He is admitted to practice in California and Wisconsin; the United States District Courts for the Southern, Central, and Eastern Districts of California; the United States Tax Court; and the Ninth Circuit of the United States Court of Appeals. Mr. Woodard has served as President of the Western Pension & Benefits Council, San Diego Chapter Executive Committee; co-chair of the Wills for Heroes, San Diego Chapter; and as an At-Large Board Member of the San Diego County Bar Association's Community Service Committee. Since 2017, he has been Co-Vice President for Corporate Relations of the Central San Diego Black Chamber of Commerce.
Robert K. Butterfield, a founding partner of the firm, now serves as Of Counsel at Schechter Benefits Law Group LLP. Mr. Butterfield's legal career extends over four decades in San Diego, with practice areas including employee benefits, tax, estate planning, and corporate law. Beyond his legal career, Mr. Butterfield remains a dedicated community leader, cofounding “Promises2Kids,” participating in many charitable events throughout each year, running for U.S. Congress as a nominee of a major political party in 1988, and holding several past leadership positions in local civic and legal organizations.
